Balancing Social Energy: A Tale of an Introverted Extrovert
·
·
As someone who leans more toward being an introverted homebody, I often find myself at a crossroads when it comes to socializing. If you’re not very well-acquainted with me, this might come as a surprise! But those who know me well understand that seeing me out past 11 pm is about as rare as spotting a unicorn. While I can play the part of an extrovert for short periods (or longer with enough tequila 😁), my social batteries drain quickly, leaving me ready for bed long before the night is over.
This balance between introversion and extroversion can be tricky to navigate. Take, for example, this past weekend. I attended a friend's birthday party at a bar, and while I had a fantastic time catching up with friends over drinks and snacks, my energy was spent after a few hours. After witnessing a group of very inebriated men knock over two tables full of glassware, I knew it was time for me to call it a night. In my mind, I had fulfilled my social quota for the evening—Woohoo and goodnight!
But just as I was preparing to leave, I overheard talk of moving the party to a second location.
😳
The idea of heading to another bar was almost unfathomable. My energy reserves were depleted, my social juices were empty, and I had nothing left to contribute to the conversation. It was barely 10 pm, but I was already ready to head home. For those who lean more toward the extroverted side of the spectrum, this might be hard to understand. However, I’m sure my fellow introverts are nodding in agreement as they read this.
The great thing about knowing yourself is that you learn when to say no and when to go home. Thankfully, I have wonderful friends who understand this about me. So, I enjoyed a peaceful evening stroll home with Mat, soaking in the energy of the city from the sidelines rather than being in the thick of it. It was the perfect way to recharge my social batteries.
If you find yourself in a similar situation—whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between—I’ve got some exciting news for you. Greenbriar Market + Refillery hosts small, intimate events that cater to everyone on the social spectrum. Whether you’re looking for a cozy, low-key evening or a fun way to meet new people, our events are designed with you in mind.
We have a full calendar of workshops lined up that are perfect for those who love to learn something new, create with their hands, and connect with others. Our workshops are designed to be intimate, with no more than 10-12 participants, making them perfect for meeting people without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, each workshop includes snacks, a drink, and a $10 promo card to use in the store—ideal for discovering a new favourite product.
And for those of you who are extroverted and want to keep the night going, we’ve partnered with local businesses where you can continue the fun after the workshop is over. We truly believe in supporting small businesses so we can all continue to thrive together.
But if you’re more like me, feel free to take your workshop creations and Greenbriar goodies home to recharge. We’ll be here to welcome you back whenever you’re ready to dive into the next social adventure!
Check out our upcoming workshops and stay tuned for even more exciting events. And, of course, we’d love to hear from you—are you an introvert, an extrovert, or somewhere in between? Let us know in the comments or drop us a line!
