The Mat Finish: The Better Laundry Swap (and the Math to Prove It)

A note from Mathew — co-founder of Greenbriar Market + Refillery
Here’s the truth:
We used to use laundry tabs too.
They were convenient. Tidy. Pre-measured. Felt like a good swap.
But when we started running into stock issues (again), we gave the liquid refill soap a proper shot—and honestly? We haven’t looked back.
Here’s what we’re using now:
🟠 2x Concentrated Citrus Laundry Soap — 1 tablespoon per load
🟣 3x Concentrated Lavender or Fragrance Free — 1 teaspoon per load
You can bring in any bottle to refill, but here’s how the cost stacks up if you filled a 1L bottle:
Let’s compare it to a 1L bottle of Tide from Walmart:
Tide: $7.97 for 25 loads → 32¢ per load (uses 40mL per load)
Our 2x Concentrated Soap: $10 per litre → 15¢ per load (using just 15mL)
Our 3x Concentrated Soap: $13.50 per litre → 7¢ per load (just 5mL… yes, really)
💧 Cold water? No problem.
💧 Calgary’s hard water? Still no problem.
💧 This stuff just works.
Even if you overpour a little, you’re still saving money. It works brilliantly, costs less per load, and keeps that bottle in use—right where it belongs.
So instead of wish-cycling your current Tide bottle, just refill it.
Even one refill doubles its life—though we’d definitely recommend doing it more than once.
TL;DR: All our laundry tabs are out of stock with no ETA. But the refill bar? Fully stocked.
→ Come try it.
