The Lotion That Converted a Skeptic: Green Cricket Hand + Body Lotion
There's something about most hand and body lotions that give me a bit of an ick factor. I find they usually leave you feeling greasy, like you can't touch anything for the rest of the day, or they just don't hydrate your skin. The fragrance on most lotions is also just a no for me.
How we found Green Cricket
When we were getting ready to open our first physical location, we were on the hunt for great products we could sell at a great price, that worked well, and that we would love and use ourselves. Mat came across Green Cricket out of Toronto. We ordered some samples, and while not every product was a winner, the majority of liquids on our refill bar still come from them today: dish soap, laundry detergent, hand + body wash, mouthwash, and hand + body lotion.
Green Cricket Hand + Body Lotion: a skeptic's review
Of course, trying out lotions, I was skeptical. I'm one of those people who waits until it's too late to decide that using some lotion would probably be a good idea (like it was a good idea three weeks ago, and now it's too late), except with Green Cricket Hand + Body Lotion, it never seems to be too late. They've somehow found a way to convert me into an early adopter. What?!
This lotion is silky smooth, absorbs in beautifully, and comes in three amazing scents, plus a fragrance free version. I love how it never leaves me feeling greasy but still actually hydrates my skin. I don't feel like I need to keep slathering it on either, a tiny bit goes a long way. It's also small batch produced in Canada, which is always a win. What more could you actually want in a lotion?

Green Cricket vs CeraVe: the price math
I'm told the gold standard everyone's trying to mimic in this category is CeraVe. Not my cup of tea, but a ridiculously popular product, so let's do some math.
CeraVe's Daily Moisturizing Lotion runs about $21 for 355 mL (we checked Well.ca in October 2026 and it was $20.89, marked down from $21.99), which works out to roughly $6 per 100 mL. Green Cricket's Hand + Body Lotion Pre-Pack, the one you'd buy off our shelf, is $8.00 for 130 g, or $6.15 per 100 g. Lotion is close enough to water in weight that those two numbers compare fairly, and they're basically the same price, so no real winner there.

That's what 100 g of Green Cricket lotion costs when you bring your own bottle to the refill bar, next to roughly $6 for the same amount of CeraVe. About 40% less.
But that's not how most of our customers actually buy it. Bring your own bottle to the refill bar and it's $3.50 per 100 g. Same lotion, same great smell, you're just skipping the packaging Green Cricket would otherwise have to pay for and pass on to you.

Refill your own bottle in Calgary
You can refill hand + body lotion by weight at our refill bar at Crossroads Market in Calgary. Bring a clean bottle or jar you already have, or pick up a container in store, and we'll fill it with exactly as much as you need. The pre-pack comes in a black aluminum bottle with a treatment pump, and you can bring that bottle back for refills too.
