A little commitment. A big flex.

Happy Spring, Emily

Twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five!!

Yes! I say to myself. Good job.

With spring now officially here, my mental health is a fine balancing act, and my physical health… well, let’s just say it could use some love. So I decided to make a few changes.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know I recently wrote about applying Mel Robbins’ Let Them Theory (seriously, a game changer). Even my mom has picked up the book for herself! (Hi Mom! And happy early birthday!)

I also shared how I’ve been putting my iPhone in another room while I’m home — stepping away from constant pings and doomscrolling so I can just…be.

Now, while last week’s less-than-stellar weather threw off my plan to walk every day (I'm back at it this week), I have stuck with another goal: one push-up per day.

Yup, you read that right. One push-up a day!

Sounds ridiculous, right? But hear me out.

A few years ago, I read Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by BJ Fogg. His whole premise? Big, lasting change starts with tiny habits that are so easy you can’t talk yourself out of them. One push-up turns into five, then ten, then twenty. The magic is in the simplicity.

So I started with one push-up a day. Once I was already on the floor, it felt silly not to keep going. Ten push-ups became my stopping point — and by stopping point, I mean my arms said, “nope.”

But instead of feeling defeated, I celebrated! Goal complete and nine extra push-ups. High-five!

A couple of weeks in, I bumped it up to one push-up in the morning and one at night. And now? I’m doing twenty-five push-ups twice a day. That’s fifty push-ups a day — fifty more than I was doing a month ago!

My posture’s better, my arms feel stronger, and the progress, though slow, is real. And it got me thinking about my Greenbriar family.

What if you made one tiny change in your home? Swap out just one product for something local or Canadian-made from our shop. Those small choices add up.

Maybe you switch out your bottled shampoo for an Upfront Cosmetics shampoo bar — less plastic, longer-lasting, travel-friendly. Or swap your toothpaste for one with hydroxyapatite (we’ve got tabs from Tanit and a new paste from Routine).

Bring in your old Dawn dish soap bottle and refill it with GreenCricket’s gentle, effective dish soap. Good for the planet, and it actually works.

Instead of giving more to giant corporations like Sephora, why not try locally made, refillable Aspera skincare? Luxury, minus the guilt.

Or ditch the big-box brands and try our 3-ply Triple Roll Bamboo Toilet Paper from Roll Up — soft, strong, and sustainably made.

The trick is to make small, incremental changes as you run out of things. And the best part? The feedback we get from customers is that these products often work better than the mainstream ones, last longer, and save money in the long run. Little wins worth celebrating!

Maybe you come in for a three-times-concentrated unscented laundry refill (just one teaspoon per load!) and leave with a Myni cleaning tab, BKind’s toxin-free nail polish, and a refillable candle from Ornata. That’s not one change — that’s like doing three push-ups in one go! And you absolutely should celebrate each one.

My family loves helping you make switches. We use the products in the store ourselves, so we can genuinely advise and point you in the right direction. We’d love to help you find something new to feel good about — pop in anytime! You can visit us at both our Montgomery and Crossroads locations!

I'm off to do my one push-up. But if I do 26 while I'm down there, that's 25 more than I planned on and one more than I did yesterday!
