Four Years of Greenbriar: A Celebration of Community, Sustainability & Growth

Four years. 

That’s how long it’s been since we first took a leap and started Greenbriar Market + Refillery. 

Some days, it feels like just yesterday we were carefully packing up orders at home, hearing the little Shopify ding and getting way too excited over each sale. 

Other days, it’s wild to think about just how much has changed—how what started as a simple idea has become a thriving, community-driven business that connects people to more sustainable choices every day.

And now? It’s time to celebrate.

A Business Built on Community

One of the best things about Greenbriar isn’t just the products on the shelves—it’s the people who walk through our doors every day. Whether it’s our longtime customers who come in for their weekly refills (and who we now know by name), our vendors who pour their heart into what they create, or the people who just wander in out of curiosity and leave feeling inspired—this store was built for all of you.

"When we started, we wanted to make it easier to shop sustainably without paying ridiculous shipping fees or sacrificing quality," says Mat. 

"But what we didn’t expect was how much of a community would grow around it. It’s never just been about selling products—it’s about helping people build habits, feel empowered in their choices, and connect with the amazing local makers behind what they’re buying."

We’ve always said that every product in this store has a story. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to connect our customers with the people behind the products, through workshops, vendor appreciation nights, and simply by sharing the stories behind what we carry.

"It’s such a cool feeling when someone comes in looking for a new moisturizer, and we get to tell them not just about the product but about the person who made it," says Shawn. "We’re here to help people make choices that align with their values, and knowing that the vast majority of our offerings supports a small or Canadian-owned business? That’s the cherry on top."

We’re pulling out all the stops: bubbly beverages (thanks to Santé Dry Bottle Shop!), product sampling, door prizes, and a special gift with purchase. 

And because we love to say thank you, starting March 8, when you spend $50 or more, you’ll get a free Ornata bath bomb—the perfect excuse to unplug and treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation.

What’s Next for Greenbriar?

If you know us, you know we’re always working on something new. Year five is shaping up to be an exciting one, and we’re already gearing up for some big launches.

"We’ve got three brand-new scents coming to our Ornata line—scents that Mat and I personally blended right here in Calgary," says Shawn. "We’re also expanding Aspera and rolling out Cuprea, which has been in the works for a while."

On the business side, we’re making sure that sustainable shopping stays affordable, even with the rising costs of… well, everything.

"We’re focused on bringing more products in-house and making strategic buying choices to keep pricing stable," says Mat. "We want to make sure Greenbriar remains a place where people can shop sustainably without breaking the bank."

A Huge Thank You

Four years in business is no small thing—especially as a small, independent shop. We wouldn’t be here without our incredible customers, vendors, and friends who have supported us from day one. Every refill, every conversation, every moment shared in our store has been a part of this journey.
